Suffolk University, founded in 1906, has a growing alumni population of over 90,000. The Division of Advancement has achieved significant fundraising success in the past seven years and has surpassed several fundraising records and alumni and donor engagement goals.
The Assistant/Associate Director of Athletics Giving reports to the Director of Annual Giving and works closely with the Director as well as the Sr. Director of Advancement Engagement and Annual Giving, and the Senior Major Gift Officer on developing comprehensive fundraising strategies and program development for the engagement, acquisition, stewardship, retention and upgrading of donations to Athletics building a culture of philanthropy and increasing athletics giving at all levels from alumni, parents, and friends. This position works in close partnership with Advancement colleagues and our colleagues in Athletics including the Director of Athletics and coaches.
Fundraising
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of alumni, parents and friends in support of Athletics.
- Create relationships with athletics prospects and donors as well as Suffolk’s Athletics staff and student-athletes.
- Develop and execute a strategy for our annual Athletics Day of Giving (and similar programs).
- Design and implement Athletics targeted solicitations and giving campaigns. This includes direct
mailings, social media campaigns, and outreach via the Student Philanthropy and Engagement Center.
• Utilize giving levels and giving history to continue to cultivate, solicit and steward athletics donors.
Program Development and Engagement
- Further develop athletics giving level program including the Coach Nelson Club
- Collaborate with the Director of Annual Giving and senior staff to manage social media campaigns
focused on Athletics (Athletics Day of Giving and other initiatives).
- Draft, write and manage targeted athletics digital and print outreach and solicitations.
- Plan, promote and implement parent and alumni athletic events (pre-game events, Athletics Hall of Fame,
sporting events, Hall of Fame, etc.)
• Support coaches in engaging and stewarding donors to their programs including helping to develop and
implement communication plans.
Operations
- Develop a thorough understanding of the Advancement database system known as RE NXT.
- Track all development related activities in our RE NXT Advancement database.
- Assist in data integrity efforts to ensure accurate and complete alumni, donor and parent database records.
- Collaborate with Advancement Services team to facilitate the annual recording of student athletics affiliations in the Advancement database.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and assist with special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 3 years (Assistant level) or 5 years (Associate level) of fundraising, alumni relations, event management and
development or athletics experience preferably in a higher education setting.
- Athletic experience as a player, coach or administrator at the high school or intercollegiate level preferred.
- Successful candidates will have a keen and authentic interest in making a significant impact at Suffolk in

- Sense of urgency and enthusiastic commitment to Suffolk University’s Advancement priorities.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and a strong commitment to help developing

- Highly professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated success with developing and sustaining relationships with donors and volunteers.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and writing skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and
courteously with colleagues throughout the University, alumni, other constituents and the public.
- Demonstrably strong writing, planning, marketing, communications and orga nizational skills.
- Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization
to meet deadlines.
- Experience with RE NXT database or a similar constituent database, Excel and Word.
- Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
