About the Role

Applicants must have at least 10 years' of experience in the transit industry, specifically in safety management within a multi-modal transportation environment, and possess expertise in sustainability principles, systems safety engineering, emergency management, and project management. The role demands a solid understanding of health and safety legislation and experience in human resource management within a unionized environment. The Chief Safety Officer will oversee two main units: Transit Safety and Transit Training, and will be a key member of the Departmental Leadership Team, advising on policy and strategic issues. The position also involves financial planning, budget management, and representing the department in various forums. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, inspirational leader with a principled approach, and a natural collaborator who can build strategic alliances and resolve critical issues through advanced negotiation skills.
