House Manager - Women and Youth Center
Summary: The WAY Center is a Christian organization that provides spiritual and social services for families in need or crisis. The WAY Center was established to be a place of help, hope, healing, and transformation for people who are lost and in need of hope: the hungry, homeless, hopeless, and downtrodden. The primary goal is to share the gospel at every opportunity and inspire growth and faith in Jesus Christ to all who will listen.
Position Objective : To provide effective supervision and life skills training of residents living in The WAY Home, a transitional housing program provided by the Women and Youth Center, Inc. (hereafter “the WAY Center”).
Classification: Salary- 4 days a week (this includes overnight) it is preferred that house managers live on site if possible. House managers may return to the applicant's own home on days off or whenever residents are not home. Residents are required to be busy and productive during the day Tuesday-Friday and will be at work, school or The WAY Center giving house managers personal time from 9:00am - 4:00pm.
Position Reports to : The Program Director of the WAY Center.
Salary: Free Room and Board with a stipend of $250.00 a wk. paid biweekly . This stipend is increased if a second house mom or substitute is unavailable requiring house manager to be “on duty” beyond the expected hours.
Job Description: The House Mother is to uphold mission statement of The WAY Home:
Mission Statement: The WAY Home is a safe haven for women and children, giving hope for the future and the opportunity to build a firm foundation in Christ. This stable housing in conjunction with the mentoring programs provides residents with the ability to stay focused on education and spiritual growth while one work through financial and/or emotional crisis. The desire is for The WAY Home to be a loving and warm Christian environment for families to model long after the women and children leave the program.
· Make disciples of Jesus Christ . Look for opportunities to share the gospel. (Mat. 28:19-20)
· Be a listening ear first - then carefully proceed to assist with problem solving, goal setting, and developing healthy relationships (first vertically then horizontally). (James 1:19)
· Maintain inventory of household supplies and food .
· Supervise residents living in The Way Home at all times unless arrangements have been made for another approved volunteer to monitor the home and its residents.
· Educate residents of the rules of the house and assist Directors by enforcing those rules, holding each resident accountable to policies set forth by the Board of Directors and Administrative staff.
· Contact supervising director on call immediately for any emergency situations or unusual situations- this would include unknown or unscheduled visitors that one is unaware of. (ie...clients, volunteers, donors, etc.) Unusual requests or directives from residents or other staff members that violate WAY Home policies.
· Transport residents to school, work, doctor appointments, grocery store, etc...Be sure residents are planning wisely and not taking advantage of time, gas, and use of company vehicle.
· Ensure WAY Home is always kept as neat and orderly as possible . Be willing to set the example by assisting with chores as needed, keeping one's own bedroom and areas clean and teaching residents proper cleaning techniques using the proper tools and products.
· Create dinner menu for the month and FOLLOW it as close as one can. Changes may need to be made on occasion out of necessity and based on your approval.
· Assign Chores to residents and complete chore charts.
· Follow up to ensure chores are done properly ; assist residents that need help understanding and implementing proper cleaning techniques.
· Room Inspections - Bedrooms are to be checked daily for cleanliness and inappropriate or hazardous materials. Any concerning factors should be documented on the proper forms and reported immediately to that residents’ team advisor or program director.
· Assign specific days for residents to do their Laundry and post a schedule for residents to follow.
· Keep a record of important client activity - inform director of needs and accomplishments by way of follow up notes and incident reports. A copy of these records will be kept at the home & administrative office.
· Be a mediator between clients and administrative staff allowing them to accomplish the administrative duties one is responsible for.
· Attend monthly mentor meetings and any seminars, retreats, and continuing education classes that are offered or required.
· Attend or lead at least one Bible study or group with clients every week.
Requirements & Qualifications:
· Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and lead a Christ centered life. It is imperative that the housemother display mature, consistent Christian conduct, blameless, having a good testimony as set by God. (2Tim. 2:24-26 ; Titus 2: 3-5)
· Be compassionate, loving, and caring, never quarrelsome. (1 Tim. 3:3)
· Must be a team player and work in unity with the Administrative Staff and Board of Directors. (Ephesians 4:1-3)
· The housemother is to be one who walks in the spirit, not the flesh. (Gal. 5: 16-26)
· Always speak positively about the Center, its staff, Board of Directors, volunteers and services.
(Eph. 4:29-32)
· Must regularly attend a local Bible believing church that agrees with the mission and purpose of The WAY Center and its ministries.
· The housemother should have already met all the personal life goals that Women and Youth Center encourages clients to meet, (i.e. high school diploma and/or vocational training, valid driver’s license, owns a working vehicle, healthy lifestyle, healthy family relationships). Remember Women and Youth Center is an ambassadors for Christ and must strive to live according to Gods word and be good examples.
· Must agree to fingerprint background check on a national and state level. Must also be clear from any violent criminal behavior, sexual misconduct, and fraudulent charges.
· Must test negative for illegal drug use and provide proper documentation from doctor for all prescription drugs.
· The housemother must be free from addictive behaviors such as using tobacco, drugs, alcohol, cutting, sex, etc.
· Must be living sexually pure before God and others. (1 Cor. 6: 13 & 18)
· Must resist pride and be submissive and respectful to authority. ( Romans 13:2 ; 1 Tim. 6:1-2)
Education/Experience Requirements :
· High School Diploma required
· Ministry and/or Social service experience/ training preferred.
· Knowledge and experience with office equipment (phone, copier, fax, etc...)
· Prior experience in ministry and/or social work of similar magnitude.
