Description Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to oversee the irrigation group, responsible for the development and maintenance of water delivery systems in the city, many of which are computer controlled. An employee in this position directly supports the operations of the Landscape Division and the Public Works Department.
Examples of Duties - Oversees the computerized Motorola MIR system that operates most of the City's systems, including the installation and programming of units.
- Directs, leads and schedules assigned departmental personnel; conducts in-service training and orientation for staff.
- Leads the development and implementation of irrigation schedules, inspections, preventative maintenance, identification and execution of irrigation systems repairs, and monitoring of water usage and irrigation systems performance.
- Improves irrigation systems in conjunction with landscape maintenance operations.
- Supervises assigned facilities and staff and ensures the safety of personnel and cleanliness of equipment and materials.
- Maintains and procures inventory and supplies needed to provide ongoing maintenance of irrigations systems.
- Performs routine administrative and accounting duties, e.g., reviews program statistical data, generates and submits reports and documentation; maintains accounts, verifies receipts and budgetary expenditures.
Typical Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. At least two (2) years of supervisory experience and four (4) years of responsible experience in irrigation standards with knowledge of various irrigation systems. Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting. Experience working with hydraulic systems, irrigation pumps, wiring and controller related issues, and IRRINET M systems. An equivalent combination of training/education and experience will be considered.
An employee in this job classification must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and acceptable driving record and possess or be able to obtain and maintain the following certifications within six (6) of employment: FNGLA Certified Landscape Irrigation Service Technician and Certification in Backflow preventers.
Supplemental Information Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as roadways, open fields, office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
